ARTIST NOTES: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to dramatic loss of human life all across the globe. Some of the most confronting images flooding the news sites and newspapers around the world came out of India mid 2021. Images of the mass cremation grounds where relatives had often travelled great distances and waited hours for their turn to say goodbye. Often the scenes were photographed or filmed for relatives under lockdown across India. Tragic images were put on display for the world to witness. I was devastated for the wonderful people and their stunning country. These were enduring images for me and I wanted to create an abstract interpretation of these scenes as a memory of the love and loss that was suffered during the pandemic and also the resilience and strength shown among communities across the world.
